Barnsley Hospice to attend area’s first Carers Roadshow
Join us at our Carers Roadshow, a first of its kind for Barnsley and Yorkshire, to learn more about the support available to you locally
We’re bringing Barnsley’s first Carers Roadshow to Barnsley Market on Friday 9 June to provide additional support to those caring for a loved one in our borough.
A first of its kind for Barnsley and Yorkshire, the Roadshow has been driven forward by Barnsley Healthcare Federation in partnership with Barnsley Council, NHS organisations and the voluntary and community sector.
Taking place between 10am and 2pm, this free event is a great opportunity for unpaid carers to learn more about the support available to them and the loved ones they care for.
Organisations and charities working across Barnsley will be on hand throughout the day to offer practical support, information and advice to help people in their caring roles.
Our Carers Roadshow will also be a great way for carers to come together, make meaningful connections and share their experiences with us. On the day, carers will be able to provide feedback to help inform how we can better support them in the future.
James Barker, Chief Executive at Barnsley Healthcare Federation, said:“We’re excited to be hosting Barnsley’s first ever Carers Roadshow at The Glass Works. The day is all about the unpaid carers of Barnsley, offering support, guidance, practical advice and raising awareness of the incredible work these unpaid carers do.
“Through the event, we want to see what further support our local carers need and how we and other local organisations can continue to support and develop their services to meet the needs of our carers.
“It’s going to be an exciting day, with lots of people to talk to, and we hope as many carers as possible are able to join us.”
Councillor Jo Newing, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place Health and Adult Social Care, said: “Carers play a vital role in our communities, looking after and supporting their loved ones to continue living happy, healthy lives, and we want to be ambitious in our plans to make sure they get the support and recognition they need.
“I’m therefore delighted to welcome Barnsley’s first Carers Roadshow to the heart of our town centre, making practical advice and support more accessible for carers young and old. Have a cup of tea on us, check out what Barnsley Market has to offer and talk to friendly staff working with carers across Barnsley about the support available in your local area.”
Chris Millington, an unpaid carer in Barnsley and Non-Executive Director for Patient and Public Engagement at Barnsley Healthcare Federation, added:“Caring is like a very large jigsaw puzzle, made up of an unsung army of carers doing what comes naturally, caring for their loved ones at home. The Carers Roadshow will be a great opportunity for us to salute this dedicated army by helping and supporting them.”
Taking place during Carers Week, our Carers Roadshow will help us achieve our Barnsley Carers Strategy ambitions by:
Providing much-needed support and recognition to carers in our communities.
Helping more people recognise their roles as a carer.
If you, a friend or a family member would be interested in attending the event, pop down to the atrium in Barnsley Market, where our friendly staff will be on hand to talk about anything you need. The event is a drop-in so come visit us at whatever time works best for you.
Free teas will be provided throughout the day by the Yorkshire Rose Tea Shop with entertainment taking place to help celebrate our borough’s unpaid carers.
