On Sunday, 26 May, fitness businesswoman Ellie Simon participated in the AJ Bell Great Manchester 10k to raise funds for Barnsley Hospice. By race day, Ellie had raised £2,000 through her JustGiving page, doubling her original target.
At just 27 years old, Ellie Simon is a dedicated personal trainer and founder of Ellie Elite Coaching, a business focused on helping others achieve their fitness goals. This year, Ellie, alongside fellow coach Madelaine Roystone (age 24), led a team of 26 participants, which included clients, colleagues, and friends, to run the Great Manchester 10k, all rallying behind the cause of Barnsley Hospice.
The AJ Bell 10k event, which started and ended on Oxford Street in Manchester, is renowned for its high-energy atmosphere, featuring live music, entertainment zones, and enthusiastic support from crowds along the route. This provided the perfect opportunity for Ellie and her team to shine a spotlight on the outstanding specialist services provided by the hospice.
The decision to support Barnsley Hospice was personal for Ellie Simon and Madelaine Roystone, as the organisation holds a cherished place in their hearts: “Barnsley Hospice helped our grandparents in their time of need, and we wanted to give back to show our appreciation for this amazing charity,” said Ellie.
Reflecting on this achievement, Ellie added, “Raising above £2,000 has been an incredible feeling. That, alongside everyone taking part in my team being a complete beginner when it came to running, and getting through this challenge, has been so fulfilling. Seeing the joy and tears at the finish line was incredible.”
Vicky Stead, Community Relationships Manager at Barnsley Hospice, expressed her thanks for Ellie and her team, saying, “What an achievement. It’s fantastic to see such a driven and dedicated group supporting the hospice by reaching the finish line at a big event like this. Thank you to Ellie and the team for supporting Barnsley Hospice and raising an incredible amount.”
Coaches Ellie Simon and Madelaine Roystone have made an excellent contribution to the charity, and their donations will help Barnsley Hospice continue providing specialist care for the local community. Without supporters like them, Barnsley Hospice wouldn’t exist, and Ellie’s remarkable achievement highlights the positive impact individuals are making within the local community.
Looking ahead, Ellie and Madelaine hope to work towards a half marathon next year to raise even more money for Barnsley Hospice.
To support Ellie Simon’s fundraising efforts, donations can still be made through her JustGiving page here.
