Barnsley Hospice made a fantastic achievement at the Palliative and End of Life Care Awards held in London on Friday, 28 June.
Hosted by TV personality and broadcaster, Kate Garraway, the event brought together nearly 20 dedicated staff members to celebrate excellence in several categories, highlighting the exceptional quality of care and support provided by their dynamic team.
The hospice brought home two awards and received high commendations in three categories. This included the ‘Ancillary Worker Award’, which was awarded to the Catering Team for their extraordinary contribution to the care and support provided to both patients and their loved ones.
Sue Cassell, catering team lead at the hospice, expressed her appreciation, saying, “Receiving this award is a tremendous honour for our entire team. It’s telling of the dedication and love we put into our work every day. We are proud to be part of Barnsley Hospice”.
The ‘Outstanding Volunteer Award’ was presented to Jean Thompson-Banks, recognising her 30 years of support to Barnsley Hospice.
Jean, reflecting on her achievement, said, “I am incredibly honoured to have received this award. It means a lot to me, not just as a recognition of my contributions to a brilliant local cause, but also because it symbolises the connections I’ve made at Barnsley Hospice. Over the years, I’ve formed lasting friendships with inspiring people, and it was here that I met my husband.”
Additionally, high commendations were awarded to Helena Loynes for ‘The Excellence in Palliative Care Nursing (Not for Profit)’ Award, Mel Butcher for ‘The Palliative Care Manager (Not for Profit)’ Award, and Dawn Jenkinson for ‘The Best Fundraiser’ Award.
