Trustee Vacancies (Voluntary Role)

Barnsley Hospice is a registered charity and we are currently recruiting for Trustees to support the existing Board.

We are the only consultant-led specialist centre in Barnsley, supporting palliative patients at life’s end and their families through a range of expert services, including clinical symptom management, counselling, complementary health & wellbeing therapy and social work.

We are looking for candidates with a proven track record of significant achievement within the business/commercial sector at a senior level. Retail, finance or legal experience would be particularly welcome.  Charity experience is not a prerequisite, but the ability to maintain the balance between care, compassion and commercialism will be a real benefit. You must be someone who recognises and fulfils their responsibilities and is able to practice good governance. It is important that you are someone who can see the bigger picture, keeping the aims and objectives of the charity in mind at all times.

These are voluntary positions with expenses paid.

We are particularly keen to achieve a more diverse Board of Trustees, and welcome applications from all sections of the community.

Location and time commitment

We are based in Barnsley and if successful you will receive a full induction to the hospice. The estimated time commitment total is approx. 2 days per month (day/evening) however, regular dialogue and correspondence is required.

Organisation summary

Barnsley Hospice is a charity that provides specialist palliative and end of life care to hundreds of local people and those close to them each year. Our main priority is to achieve the best possible quality of life for people living with a life-limiting illness, whilst supporting those close to them during the period of illness and bereavement. As a specialist care provider, the range of skills we offer include, pain and symptom management, emotional support and end of life care. The hospice currently employs about 100 people and has a team of volunteers, based both at the hospice and within our Retail Hub.
