Ian joined the Board of Trustees in September 2022.
He describes himself as a ‘nearly retired’ design consultant, having run a successful business for fifty years, which saw him working with some big brands. Aside from moving away to complete his BA and MA level education, Ian has lived and worked in Barnsley and Darton pretty much all of his life.
As well as supporting the hospice in his role as a trustee, Ian is currently Chair of Barnsley Squash Club and Barnsley Harriers, where he remains an active member. In addition, he also holds volunteering roles at Wentworth Woodhouse and Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
Ian has two children and three grandchildren, who are very dear to him. As was his mother, who spent her final few weeks in the hospice.
Outside of family and work, his main interests are the visual arts, travel, sport and the outdoors. Ian has taken up drawing/illustration since his “retirement” and also enjoys restoring old furniture. He also still enjoy running, having completed over 50 marathons and ultra events all over the world, but these days you’re more likely to find him enjoying long-distance walking.
Ian lives by the mantra “Look, don’t just see. Listen, don’t just hear.”
